The story
of this band began when two reasonably shaggy blokes, Hata and Sammy met at
school in the city of Turku, Finland in
1999. They weren’t a major source of happiness for their teachers, especially
when they decided to form a school band. They had a few gigs at school, but
other than that, not much was happening. The other members of the band weren’t
too involved, so a big part of the time was used for drinking and other
activities. After a while Hata and Sammy got bored and they decided to continue
on their own. After several ads in local music stores and a few miserable
drummer candidates later, the lads found a guy called Pasi. He was really
cutting it and got the job. Also, the name Strikin’ Case was first brought up
around this time, meaning the year 2000. With Pasi onboard it was time for some
serious rehearsing.
When it
came down to still missing band mates, there wasn't too much going on. Because
of the slow progress, Pasi got frustrated and since he wanted to play and gig,
he decided to leave the band. After Pasi’s announcement, Hata fleetingly lost
his interest in rock’n’roll circles and decided to join a blues band. Luckily
Sammy talked some sense to him.
Briefly
before Pasi’s departure Hata had seen an ad on the Internet where a singer was
looking for a band. The singer was called Sean. Sean had moved to Turku from another town
and was now ready for new challenges. With nothing else to do, all three
decided to join a cover band called Slingshot. After it was clear that Sean
could sing, it was time for rehearsing and some gigging. Eventually the lads
got bored playing "all time favourites" and decided to leave the
band.
Now was the
time to get Strikin’ Case back on track. On one drunken night they bumped into
Pasi, the former drummer of the band. The boys had a chat and it was clear that
Pasi was willing to join the band again. A week later this fancy looking bass
player, named Terry Star, entered the rehearsal room. The band just clicked and
Terry was in.
The first
official gig of Strikin’ Case took place two months later in the military base
of Säkylä. Although the set list still consisted purely of cover songs, the
main goal was to write original songs. After the show the guys knew they could
really rock the place live too.
The first result
of the new collaboration was a song titled Here We Go, which emerged from the
first jam sessions of Sean and Hata. Since that day the band has written
several songs together and more are coming on a constant basis. In December
2004 Terry decided to leave the band to start his own project. We wish all the
best for Terry.
It took a year
and a half to find a new bass player but finally in April 2006 a man walked in the room
and played how we wanted to. This cowboy’s name was Simppu and after some rehearsals
it was time to do some shows again! Suprisingly enough, after several gigs
together bassist Simppu desided to leave the band. And now SC was without a
bassist AGAIN. Former bassist of Strikin' Case Terry heard about the situation
and wanted back. There was no other choise but take him back or otherwise many gigs would be cancelled.
Terry played three gigs well enough but right before the fourth gig he made
clear that music is not his cup of tea at all and he wants out AGAIN. The
sooner the better. What can you say? The guys were completely pissed off to
Terry but that didn't chance the fact, that they would have to do without a
bassist ( again). Luckily a friend of the band knew a guy who wasn't doing
anything at the moment and knew how to rock with that four string. He was
Altti, today's SC bassist. He was really playing well and also came along with
everybody right from the start. Altti was also up to the job so he was in.
Altti
practised all songs pretty fast so the band was back on track again. The band
was really getting better gig after gig, but the set list consisted of pretty
old songs mostly. Sean had lost his interest to write lyrics or compose the
melodies for the new songs. As this went on for quite a while, the other
members of the band grew increasingly frustrated about Sean's actions. Several
times the rehearsals ended to a fight. After one gig Sean told to the rest of
the band that he's going to quit. He said that the motivation just wasn’t there
anymore and because of that he was only slowing things down. So he wanted to
step off. There were still a bunch of gigs booked but Sean promised to do them
before leaving the band, which was fair enough. Sean's last gig took place in
February 2008 but before that we decided to get some songs out of our system. During
this time we managed to do a new kick ass record called “Basement Glory”. By
far our best… hands down. It was agreed that this would be Sean’s last project
with Strikin’ Case and it was also a good way to say goodbye. Thanks for these
years mate! Meanwhile the band is on a brake from touring. For obvious reasons.
But we’re gonna get that new singer guy no matter how long it takes! There are
just too many great new songs to waste. And the chemistry with Altti onboard is
just great so don't worry...Whole new Strikin' Case will be back bigger and
better than ever! Just wait and meanwhile… listen to the old stuff you
fuckers!!!=)
